How to Get a Library Card
Library cards are free for California residents. Non-California residents may purchase a card for $4.50.
Cards are issued to any child who can write her/his name. A parent or legal guardian’s signature is required for young people under 14. Click here for Parental Signature Form. A card is necessary to check out materials. A borrower is responsible for all materials checked out on her/his card.
You may obtain a Pacific Grove Public Library card by visiting the Library and completing a library card application, or apply for a card online. If you apply online you will receive a temporary card number. You will then need to bring that temporary card number along with proof of residence address to the Pacific Grove Public Library Circulation Desk within two weeks in order to obtain your actual library card.
Verification of Address
When you pick up your library card, please bring verification of your address with you. Anyone of the following documents can be used to verify your address:
- A valid DMV driver's license, learner’s permit or ID
- A piece of mail with your name and address, postmarked within the past 3 months
- A utility bill showing service in your name at your address within the past 3 months
- A rent receipt with your address dated within the past 3 months
- A rental or lease agreement showing your address dated within the past 3 months or within period of the lease
- Bank checks imprinted with your address

The number of books that can be checked out is unlimited with the occasional exception of limits on seasonal and holiday books.
One art print may be checked out at a time. Art prints circulate for one month and may be renewed twice.
